Domestic Issues - Abortion

Make abortion undesirable by providing healthcare, family planning services, well-managed adoption programs, education and child care, a living wage, and justice. Offer your hand, and people will choose life. As for moral edge-cases like the doctor saving the mother's life, we support the right of human beings to make difficult decisions in service of life to the best of their abilities when those decisions are presented by the face of death. Outside of these cases, regardless of our individual views on personal rights, we maintain that abortion is never a good choice in the wealthiest country in the world. We believe it is possible to construct a society in which abortion is not absolutely prohibited by law, but no one wants one. We seek to resolve real-world problems to decrease demand for abortion, and not to divide people with our religious views.

contradictory bills (and vetoes) in Oklahoma

The first bill in Oklahoma seemed to reconcile with the principles of the law, as it employs government only in enabling an informed choice. There is nothing wrong with the cold hard facts, and a person has to face them and then decide what to do no matter what any law or sword says. Break inside and die, or live and thrive?

The second bill protected only bad doctors who would choose to withhold medical facts from an arbitrary number of people based on their private political agendas. It's unconstitutional, for the same reasons that the first bill is allowed.

Gov. Henry vetoed both bills, appearing to fight for "the other side" but only compounding the moral confusion in a mirror image of the original contradiction. Then the Okrahoma legislature, mostly "the other party" overturned both vetoes.

So what you have are a bunch of clowns putting on an Old West stage show, replete with brothels, cowboys and indians, and new features like mobile crystal meth labs. And a bunch of nice, but uninformed people who eat it all up, just like they are riveted to the television weather reports and QVC. Meanwhile, the principles that make Oklahoma a great hope for America are subverted systematically on both sides of the aisle.
