Domestic Issues - Education We support the free right of parents to give any religious education to their children, or none, but insist on education of principles throughout history, and tools of rational logic. So, we support voucher programs and parental choice, as long as the program relates reliable, quantified observations on the world and prominent theories on those observations, and teaches all children math and science, history and music, and reading and writing English. (We see no reason to deny multi-lingual course offerings in the other subjects, though.) And, we believe every parent should have the choice of sending their child to an adequate non-religious public school. Similarly, an oath by God to pledge allegiance to the flag, or an oath on the Bible to tell the truth in court may be seen as blasphemy:
"Again you have heard that it was said to them of old time, 'You shall not make false vows, but shall perform to the Lord your vows,' but I tell you, don't swear at all: neither by heaven, for it is the throne of God; nor by the earth, for it is the footstool of his feet; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King. Neither shall you swear by your head, for you can't make one hair white or black. But let your 'Yes' be 'Yes' and your 'No' be 'no.' Whatever is more than these is of the evil one." -Matt 5:33-37
This is a misuse of God's word, taking the name of the Lord in vain. So, the controversies over prayer in schools and the pledge of allegiance are really meant to manipulate your sense of religion into reinforcing the power of the state.
God does not want robotic tape recorders. He wants people who are free to think and learn and love.

Boyhood Shadows is a new, truthful documentary about the malignance of child abuse.
One in four girls, and one in six boys are sexually abused before the age of 16. Many are abused at a very young age, and may bury these memories and shut off socially as a means of self-protection.
How many mis-diagnosed cases of bipolar disorder, autism, attention deficit disorder, depression, and schizophrenia in children are actually symptomatic of a buried secret shame that no one wants to hear? Under distrust of parents, the mind of a child fractures.
The state has a compelling interest in stopping child abuse, and since the Victorian attitude of parents who keep their children silent about sex is contrary to the public good, teachers should and must give children the vocabulary and trust that they need to tell someone about it.
How will you know that your child has been harmed, if you don't teach your child how to speak?

People who do not believe try again and again to turn the religious institution into the object of worship.
Anyone who has to force the symbols of faith on someone else does not believe in their meaning. What are they so insecure about? Kids have a natural tendency to seek the truth, and the truth will set us all free.
Given the course of intellectual history, the truth is likely something we do not yet know and cannot expect, but will be awe-inspiring and profound.
I do not understand why people would want to cram mantras of one kind or another into kids' brains, instead of setting them free to seek the truth where we old folks can no longer comprehend.
faith does not live in a vacuum

It would be nice if Earth were Heaven, but it is not like that at this time.
Denying children knowledge about the birds and the bees is a good way to split the bond between parent and child. This is how the deceiver divides people from the truth.
AIDS is a very real plague, and human beings are still going to want to have sex as far as anyone can tell.
The sad, sad thing about it is, it can be eliminated with knowledge, even with imperfect 98% solutions like condoms.
To deny children knowledge that will save their lives when you're not looking and they get curious, that's the biggest sin of all.
To deny children knowledge about sex, you would also have to deny them knowledge about the gangs of rapist pedophiles who roam the world. You think that's a joke?
