Domestic Issues - Health Care We support the right of all American citizens to receive quality basic preventative care and medical treatment. We posit that the amount of money that could be saved by basic preventative care for everyone outweighs the immediate expense of treating advanced illnesses of the poor. Subscribe to Posts [Atom]

"credit union" compromise - makes act constitutional, and better for America?
I think maybe there is hope for a "credit union" compromise on the constitutionality of the health care reform act that enables a freely chosen, non-corporate solution. Democratically run non-profit unions or cooperatives may prove more financially efficient and popular for patients than corporate risk-profit algorithms. If I didn't like one set of rules, there might be a different cooperative with rules more to my liking. If both are allowed, then we are letting the market work it out, and we are letting people freely choose alternatives that do not snare themselves as economic indentured servants to a small group of corporate profiteers. I for one would choose a non-profit cooperative in which my vote counted toward development of the rules. Does that mean I am drinking the hemlock like Socrates, subjugating my life to the will of the mob and enduring its mistakes, even at the cost of my own life? Well, standards of care underwritten by a co-op or union would have to meet the same legal minimums. I would prefer to trust the standards of as large a number of my fellow Americans as possible, because generally we work out what's right. I certainly don't trust a bunch of reptiles in suits driving fat cars and abandoning nauseated cancer patients who eat "hungry food" to stay alive.> detail, links and comments >>
