Christian Democrats in the United States

Common Questions

This sounds nice, but do I have to be a Christian?

No, you don't have to be a Christian to participate in the Christian Democrats political party.

Christians believe that Jesus Christ is the only path to salvation for the soul. Christian Democrats believe that even if not everyone believes that, we can still get along well enough to end war and poverty, without putting God to the test.

Things would not be perfect, but we could do better than the current situation. Primarily, we are interested in truth (about our government), because the truth will set us free.

Can I sign the petition without becoming a registered member?

Yes. The petition is to register the party in your state. Once formed, you would have to fill out a voter registration card in your state to formally join the party.

If we start the party, who is in charge?

Once formed in your state, when you join the party, you are in charge. Individual state laws vary, but local voters would be responsible for forming committees, passing by-laws, running candidates, etc. These details generally do not need to be considered until after incorporation as a formal political party.

Are you trying to use government to convert people?

No. Christian Democrats include Christians of many different denominations, as well as good-hearted non-Christians. If our government told us what religious principles to believe in, we would not feel free to seek God in our own way, and many would stray out of natural rebellion. Besides, if God's law is truly written in our hearts and minds, we do not need human law to enforce it.

Are you saying there should be no laws?

In the kingdom of ends, or of heaven, we would all know how to do the right thing by God, but we don't live there. So we still need laws to keep social order and advance progress, though we do not view human law as sacred, and we recognize the reality that laws can be mis-used to oppress ethnic groups and the poor, and do not always work the way they are intended. If the government cannot change laws in response to the rational will of the People, who are free to question those who claim to know the will of God, then it is not a government of the People, but a government of power and lies.

"No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other; or else he will be devoted to one and despise the other." -Matt 6:24. This is why democracy is necessary, because a government cannot be justified that declares itself the master of its people, and the concept of divine authority of kingship is a lie. Instead, the People must be masters of their government, to keep room for God in their lives, though none of us may know him perfectly in this life.

Are you some kind of bleeding-heart liberal?

The word "liberal" used to mean "patriot" when it meant giving American citizens liberty from King George. It was only later that enemies of liberty tried to re-assign the meaning of the word "liberal" equating with "communist" as the opposite of another contrived word, "conservative" which really meant "fascist," in order to conquer the spirit of freedom in America and divide us into false "sides" which are actually the same lie.

As for bleeding hearts, yes. Who would Jesus bomb? To whom would Jesus deny welfare? The world suffers. You can take your bag of silver, shut it all out and pretend you don't care, but only at the expense of your own soul and conscience. The sermon on the mount in Matthew 5 says it all. Have you been deceived to believe otherwise?

Vote for President and Vice President separately? Are you crazy?

Read the 12th, 20th and 23rd amendments to the U.S. Constitution.

The 12th amendment sets forth that Electors shall vote for President and Vice President separately. No further amendment changes that. In the event the top candidates do not receive a majority of the whole number of Electoral votes, the House votes in blocks by state, one vote per state, needing 2/3 quorum to choose the President from the top three, and Senators vote together needing 2/3 quorum to choose the Vice President from the top two.

The political parties have hijacked this by allowing you only to nominate a candidate for President, who then appoints a Vice President for the ticket. Then the People vote for the party's Electors, who vote for the party's candidates. This causes the thrashing shifts of power that knock this country back and forth between two parties.

The Founders had a reason to mix it up like this and get different parties in the Executive. They knew concentrating power would get us into trouble, and it has. Since the V.P. breaks ties in the Senate, the hijacked system gives the President the deciding vote to pass laws, which is against everything that our Founding Fathers stood for. This is why the parties keep you evenly divided, so the President can act like a King. This system is a barely legal, illegitimate trick.

We propose that the states appoint Electors for fixed periods of time, require parties to offer separate primary nominations for each office, allow the People to cast separate ballots for President and Vice President as the Electors would under the Constitution, and require the Electors under penalty of fine and imprisonment to cast their ballots in even proportion to the will of the People. Then, if candidates do not receive a majority, our elected representatives will choose the winners according to the procedure laid out in the 12th amendment.

In the long term, a constitutional amendment should be passed which reads simply:

All the People eligible to vote shall be counted Electors of President and Vice President and shall cast their ballots in the manner prescribed by the Articles and Amendments of this Constitution.

What's your interest in subverting the Constitution? You may think it is money, but that money is easily taken from you. You may think it is power, but that power is easily manipulated.

How can you say soldiers should refuse orders? Isn't that sedition?

Since the hijacked electoral system subverts and contravenes the letter of the Constitution, and since the war in Iraq was based on a lie, we believe soldiers can legally refuse orders to fight (at least in Iraq) because the President's authority as commander in chief is illegitimate. They should do so with the agreement and authority of their officers, and in an orderly way that will not put their fellows in danger.

Indeed, the party electoral slate system is itself the most foul and evil act of sedition, of treason, that has ever been enacted in this country. It subverts every bit of civic progress that the Founding Fathers and patriots of the revolution worked and died for, selling out our legislative process to the military-industrial machine.

Resistance is not futile!

How can I help?

Sign the petition.

Get your friends to sign the petition. The party will belong to you.

Help me start a non-profit 501(c)(4) political action committee to promote the petition.

Can I make a donation?

Not quite yet. But you can't fix problems by just throwing money at them. That's how the neo-con artists are ripping us off. You can help the most by printing the petition and discussing with your friends.

The PAC will provide full disclosure of donations and expenditures.

Are you in this for the money?

No. I have a little apartment and a cat. I'm in this for change, if change for the better is possible. I'm in this because I'm tired of seeing people let themselves be tricked.

I think it's possible that this could get off the ground without money. But even if everyone signs the petition and mails it back to me, I've got to pay my rent while I count them up. However I don't think many people will read this unless they hear about it, which will take time and money.

Who is behind this petition? Who writes this stuff?

What else am I supposed to do with a philosophy degree and computer programming skills but to try to change the world?
